Man's body found in Kishoreganj haor 26 hours after he went missing
Fishermen recovered the floating body of a man today, 26 hours after he went missing while fishing in Mithamain Haor in Kishoreganj, said police.
The deceased was identified as Syed Miah, 60, of Atpasha Nayabari village.
Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mithamain Police Station Kalindra Nath Golder said Syed Miah went fishing in the haor adjacent to Mahmudpur Bazar of the Dhaki union of the upazila yesterday.
"At one point, his fishing net got stuck. He then tried to dive into the water to free the net. However, he couldn't get out of the water," said the police official.
A five-member dive team of Kishoreganj Fire Service started the rescue operation around 3:15pm yesterday, which was later called off due to a strong current of water, OC Kalinda said.
Later, fishermen found the body floating in the haor near Mithamain Sadar upazila around 9:30am today, he said.
Later, the body was handed over to the relatives without an autopsy.
