Hit by truck, newspaper hawker dies in Savar
A 55-year-old newspaper hawker died early today as a speeding truck hit his bicycle on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Savar.
The deceased was identified as Ruhul Amin, reports our local correspondent quoting police.
Atiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Savar Highway Police Station, said that the accident took place at Nabinagar bus stand area on the highway around 5:30am today.
Ruhul Amin had been a newspaper hawker for 35 years, said Ashraful Alam, a colleague of the deceased.
This morning, he was going to Nabinagar to pick up newspapers. While crossing the road in front of Joy Restaurant, he was hit by a speeding truck. He died on the spot, he said.
The truck was seized and taken into police custody, said the OC, adding that on family's request, the body was handed over without an autopsy.
Preparations are underway to file a case in this regard. Police are trying to detain the driver who fled, the OC added.
