Helper was driving the truck: police
The pickup truck that killed a student and teacher in Manikganj on Monday was being driven by the driver's helper at the time, said police yesterday.
However, a case is yet to be filed.
Officer-in-Charge of Shibalaya Police Station Md Shahin said since no written complaint has been filed, the investigation could not be started.
Mohammad Khalid Mansur, inspector (investigation) of the police station, said the pickup's driver Masum was on leave and his assistant Jewel Rana was driving the vehicle. He fled after the accident.
No vehicle registration or valid documents were found. "We couldn't confirm whether the assistant or driver have driving licence," he said.
The district administration formed a four-member committee to investigate the incident.
Shukla Sarker, additional deputy commissioner (education) and the probe committee chief, told this correspondent, "I was asked to submit the investigation
report within the next five working days."
A teacher and a schoolgirl were killed and five students of Abdul Alim Memorial School were injured, after the pickup truck ran them over on school premises in Shibalaya upazila.
Students of the school formed a human chain beside Dhaka-Aricha highway on Monday, demanding exemplary punishment for the culprits.
