Four including couple, 2-year-old son burnt in Gulshan fire
Four persons including a couple and their two-years-old son were burnt after a fire broke out at a house in Dhaka's Gulshan area this afternoon.
The injured were taken to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
The injured are: DM Rafiqul Islam Razib (35), manager of the corporate branch of a private bank, his wife Maliha Anha Urmi (32), their son Masrur Md Rafin (2), and house help Moni (35).
Of the injured, Razib sustained two percent burns; Urmi sustained 70 percent burns while Rafin and Moni sustained 30 percent burns.
Condition of all except Razib are critical, said Aiyub Hossain, resident surgeon of the institute.
The fire originated around 11:30am on the first floor, where the family lives. Eight firefighting units doused it around 1:15pm, said Lima Khanam, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters.
Cause of the fire could not be determined yet, she said.
Razib survived with minor injuries as he was in another room when the fire originated. He was getting ready to go to office, Imdadul Haque, Razib's uncle, told reporters at the hospital.
The injured were first taken to United Hospital from where they were rushed to the burn institute, he added.
