Former captain of Bagerhat cricket team dead in road accident
A former captain of Bagerhat district cricket team was dead after a truck hit his motorcycle in Sadar upazila of Bagerhat today.
Deceased Rezwanul Islam Ridu (38) was son of Abdur Razzak of Badekarapara village in Sadar upazila of the district, reports our Bagerhat correspondent.
Victim's brother Sheikh Alim said the accident happened on Khanjahan Ali Mazar-Patgati Road in Badamtala area around 5:30am while Rezwanul was returning home from Jatrapur area.
A rice-laden truck hit his motorbike from the opposite direction, leaving Rezwanul critically injured.
He was rushed to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead, Sheikh Alim said.
Confirming the accident, KM Azizul Islam, officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bagerhat Sadar Model Police Station, said they recovered the body and seized the truck.
Sheikh Haider Ali Babu, vice-president of Bagerhat District Sports Association, said Rezwanul performed his duty as the captain of Bagerhat district cricket team for long and also played cricket at Bangladesh Boys Club in Dhaka.
After retiring from sports, he started a grocery business at Dashani Circuit House intersection in Bagerhat town, added Sheikh Haider Ali.
Meanwhile, Bagerhat District Sports Association expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Rezwanul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
