Fire at Singer warehouse in Savar under control
The fire that broke out in a warehouse of Singer Bangladesh in Savar, was brought under control this afternoon.
Eight firefighting units worked for around two and half hours till 12:30pm in order to control the blaze, reports our local correspondent quoting Md Manikuzzaman, assistant director (AD) of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters in Dhaka.
The fire originated at the tin-roofed warehouse in Raz Fulbari area around 8:20am, said Ershad Hossain, duty officer of Savar Fire Service and Civil Defence control room.
Cause and the extent of damages in the fire could not be ascertained immediately, the official said, adding that no casualty was reported so far.
Nazrul Islam, security guard of a nearby factory, said that the fire started after an explosion at an electric transformer close to the Singer warehouse. It then spread rapidly, he said.
Our correspondent tried to talk to Singer officials who were present at the spot, but they refused to comment.
However, Rokib Ahmed, owner of the warehouse claimed that, they have proper fire control system in the establishment.
In this regard, Raziur Rahman, senior manager of Singer's marketing communication, said in a press note that a fire broke out this morning at a temporary storage facility of Singer located at Fulbaria, Savar. As of now, the reason for the fire is unknown. No one was inside the establishment during the incident, and no casualty has been reported."
He also stated in the press note that there is no factory of Singer at the place of the incident
