9 injured in Mugda Hospital fire
At least nine persons were injured, including five with burns, after a fire broke out at Mugda Medical College Hospital in Dhaka this noon.
They were rushed to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery and Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Of the injured, Cath Lab nurse-in-charge Monika Pereira sustained six percent burns, nurse Rumi Khatun has eight percent burns, technician Jahirul Haque Majumder suffered 30 percent burns, Mary Akter sustained 20 percent burns while ward boy Hazmul Hossain sustained burns in his respiratory tracks.
Four others -- ward boy Omar Faruk; Shahina Akhter, nurse-in-charge of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU); Saidur Rahman, who came to the hospital for Covid-19 vaccine; and another man Alamgir Hossain -- were rushed to DMCH with other injuries.
The burn injured told reporters at the institute that the fire originated at the ICU of Mugda Hospital and spread before they could run to safety.
Nazma Akhter, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters, said the fire originated around 12:30pm at a building of the hospital. Seven firefighting units worked for around half an hour in order to control the blaze.
Cause of the fire could not be known immediately.
