Easy-bike driver killed being hit by train in Joypurhat

A battery-run easy-bike driver was killed after a train hit the vehicle at an unmanned railway level crossing in Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat today.

The deceased was identified as Ataur Rahman, 48, son of Motahar Hossain of Boyarkha village in the same upazila, our Dinajpur correspondent reports, quoting Moktar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Akkelpur Police Station.

Locals said the easy-bike carrying four passengers was heading towards Naogaon's Badalgachhi upazila this afternoon.

When the three-wheeler arrived at the level crossing in Begunbari area around 12:30pm, it suddenly overturned just after it got on the railroad.

Seeing the approach of the Dhaka-bound Kurigram Express train, all the passengers hurriedly managed to get out of the vehicle but its driver failed to escape.

The train hit the vehicle, leaving driver Ataur dead on the spot, they added.

OC Moktar Hossain further said the passengers suffered minor injuries as the easy-bike overturned.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to Akkelpur Upazila Health Complex.
