Cricketer's life cut short by speeding bus in Dhaka's Farmgate
A cricketer of Kalabagan Krira Chakra died in a road accident in Dhaka's Farmgate area last night.
Shahidul Islam Nirob (32), hailing from Keraniganj, was a first batch divisional cricketer of Kalabagan Krira Chakra, reports our staff correspondent quoting police.
His friend Afzal Hossain was also injured in the accident and is now undergoing treatment at National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR).
The accident happened when a speeding 'Airport Bangabandhu Avenue Paribahan Limited' bus hit Nirob's motorcycle from behind near Farmgate Overbridge at 8:00pm last night, said Salahuddin Miah, officer-in-charge of Tejgaon Police Station.
Nirob and his friend Afzal fell off the bike and sustained crtitical injuries, the OC said, adding that the duo was taken to NITOR where doctor declared Nirob dead.
Police seized the bus. The driver managed to flee, the OC added.
A case was filed in this regard.
Sagor, younger brother of the deceased, said Nirob was returning home after practice at Kalabagan Krira Chakra.
