Couple among 3 killed in Gaibandha road accident

Three people, including a couple, were killed and at least 15 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in Gaibandha's Gobindaganj upazila last night.

All the dead and injured victims were the passengers of the truck, our Bogura correspondent reports quoting Gobindaganj Fire Service Station Officer Arif Anwar.

The deceased are Mohammad Zahurul Islam, 35, of Chak Ratipur village of Gaibandha's Sadullapur upazila, Jahid, 25, and his wife Jharna, 22.

Arif Anwar said, "The Rangpur-bound bus was not carrying any passengers. the other hand, the truck was going to Dhaka from Rangpur with passengers."

The accident took place on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway in Balua Bazar area around 11:30pm.

The fire service official said they came to know that the passengers of the truck took the truck as they did not get a bus to reach Dhaka.

The injured were rescued and sent to different hospitals, he added.
