Boy, cop killed in road crashes

Two people were killed in road accidents in two districts during the last two days, according to reports from our correspondents.

In Jashore, a four-year-old boy was killed when a truck hit a cycle carrying him yesterday morning.

The incident happened around 12:30pm on Rampur-Kanyadaha road at Kanyadaha in Sharsha upazila.

Tamim Iqbal, son of Korban Ali from Kanyadah village, died on the spot, said Sharsha Police Station OC Badrul Alam Khan. According to police and family, Tamim and his elder brother Badhan were cycling to the health complex.

The law enforcers seized the truck and detained its driver and helper. A case was filed.

In Narayanganj, a police officer died after a covered-van and his car collided head-on near Purinda Bazar in Araihazar upazila on Monday night.

The deceased -- Md Shafiullah -- was inspector (investigation) of Turag Police Station.

The accident took place around 11:30pm when the police officer was on his way home after duty, said OC Mehedi Hasan. Later, firefighters rescued him, he said. Shafiullah was rushed to a private hospital in Rupganj where doctors declared him dead. Kanchpur highway police said they seized the covered-van but its driver fled.
