Barguna mayor injured after car falls in ditch

Mayor of Barguna municipality Advocate Kamrul Ahsan Maharaj was injured as his car fell into a roadside ditch when he was going to attend the opening ceremony of coal-fired Payra power plant in Patuakhali today.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the power plant.

According to the mayor's associates and witnesses, Kamrul Ahsan suffered injuries as his driver lost control over the steering in Purakata area of Barguna Sadar upazila and the car plunged into a roadside ditch.

The mayor was rushed to Barguna Sadar Hospital but he was referred to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for better treatment, our local correspondent reports.

Doctor at Barguna Sadar Hospital said Kamrul's suffered injuries on different parts of his body. But he is out of danger now, the doctor added.

The mayor was being taken to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, one of his associates confirmed the correspondent around 11:30am.
