After 4 years, Ctg Customs auction off 30,000 tonnes of hydrogen peroxide
The Chattogram Custom House auctioned off 30,000 tonnes of Hydrogen Peroxide today (June 6, 2022) in an open tender, which was lying at Chittagong Port for four years.
After the accident at BM Container Depot in Sitakunda on Saturday, the customs sold it at only Tk 5.20 lakh for its quick removal from the port area, although the reserve value of the product was estimated at around Tk 25 lakh.
Eyakub Traders was the highest bidder at the open tender held this morning.
Even after the massive explosion at Beirut port in Lebanon in 2020, there was no auction held to sell off the dangerous goods from the port, and it had remained in abandoned conditions since then.
In addition to selling 200 containers at the auction, Customs also destroys damaged goods. After the recent accident at BM Depot in Sitakunda, Customs sold these products in an open tender for quick disposal.
According to the customs documents, Ahmed Associates, a Dhaka based trading company, imported the chemicals worth Tk 35 lakh from Belgium at the end of 2018. However, the company failed to provide proper import documents for releasing the goods.
Ali Reza Haider, deputy commissioner of Chattogram Customs House, told The Daily Star, "Following the BM Container Depot fire incident, we conducted an open tender of dangerous goods lying in the port for a few years. We'll hand over the goods very soon to the bidder."
