9 burned as gas cylinder explodes on fishing trawler

Nine people sustained burn injuries as a gas cylinder exploded on a fishing trawler in the Bay near Kutubdia in Cox's Bazar last night.

The incident occurred around 10:30pm at a ghat near Dakshin Dhurung Bazar while the trawler was returning from the sea, our correspondent reports.

Mohammad Hossain, a member of the union parishad, said the gas cylinder was kept on the trawler for cooking.

Locals, on information, rescued the injured and brought the fire under control, Kutubdia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Omar Haider confirmed.

The injured were taken to Kutubdia Upazila Health Complex. Eight of the nine injured were later shifted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

A general diary was lodged with the local police station.
