An 11-year-old girl was killed after a private car hit her on Kushtia-Jhenaidah Highway in Kushtia's Shailkupa upazila last night.

The victim, Umme Rukaiya, 11, daughter of Monowar Hossain of Sreerampur village, was a class five student of Sreerampur Government Primary School in the upazila, reports our Kushtia correspondent.

The owner of the vehicle Sherina Khatun, assistant professor of the university's political science department, was in the car while her driver was at the wheel, said Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shailkupa Police Station.

OC Aminul said the speedy car hit Rukaiya while she was returning home from school in Madandanga area around 12:30pm, leaving her seriously injured.

She was rushed to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors referred her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as her physical condition deteriorated.

The girl died around 10:30pm on the way to Dhaka, the police official said.

Confirming the incident, Sherina, also chairperson of the same department, said the accident occurred as her driver lost control of the car.

The victim's paternal uncle Feroz khan claimed that an unnatural case was filed with the police station as police did not allow the family to file any case in this regard.

The OC said they will launch an investigation into the incident.
