5 workers burnt in Narayanganj steel mill blast
Five workers were burnt in a blast at a steel mill in Narayanganj's Sadart upazila early today.
The blast took place around 4:30am at Sharmin Steel Limited in Godnail area of the upazila, reports our local correspondent quoting Officer in-Charge of Siddhirganj Police Station Golam Mostofa.
The injured were identified as Saiful, 30, Mozammel, 30, Iqbal, 25, Shoriful, 26 and Jakaria 20.
They are all admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Resident Surgeon Toriqul Islam of the hospital said all the injured suffered major burns.
Mozammel and Saiful are in a critical condition with 100 and 60 percent burn injuries respectively. "Iqbal, Shoriful and Jakaria had 30, 57 and 35 percent burn injuries," he added.
OC Golam Mostofa said police visited the mill and talked with the authorities.
Quoting the authorities, he said, "Five workers were burnt from the fire caused by a blast in gas pipe line early today. We are looking into the incident."
Rayhan Habib, director of Sharmin Steel Limited, could not be reached for comments despite repeated attempts.
