5 on easy bike killed in Rangpur crash

Five passengers of a battery-run easy bike were killed and two more were injured in a road accident in Rangpur's Taraganj upazila today.

The deceased are Shahir Uddin, 40, Khademul Islam, 38, Azanur Rahman, 45, and Md Habibullah, 45. They all were from Taraganj.

The fifth victim could not be identified till the report was filed tonight.

Crammed with passengers, a battery-run easy bike was heading to Nilphamari's Saidpur from Taraganj Bus Stand around 6:30pm.

As it arrived at Nengtichhera on the Dinajpur-Rangpur Highway, an ambulance rear-ended the easy bike causing it to collide head-on with a truck, quoting witnesses.

Local Fire Service and Civil Defense rushed the victims to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Four persons died on the spot, another died on the way to the hospital and a total of two persons were injured, said Rangpur Superintendent of Police Ferdous Ali Chowdhury.
