4 of a family burnt in Badda fire, 1 dies
One of the four members of a family, who were burnt in a fire at their house in Dhaka's Badda area early today, died at a city hospital this evening.
Saeed Hasan (37), a trader of Kaptan Bazar in Gulistan, breathed his last while being treated at the intensive care unit of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
He sustained 98 percent burn injuries on his body, said SM Aiyub Hossain, resident surgeon of the institute.
Saeed's wife Rekha Akhter (35), their daughter Safa (10) and son Safiyan (8) – are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The incident happened around 3:45 am on the top floor of a three-storey building in the Beraid area while they were asleep.
Two firefighting units doused the blaze around 4:15 am. Fire officials suspect that the fire started from a cooking gas cylinder explosion in one of the rooms, said Lima Khanam, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters.
A portion of a wall also collapsed on impact, fire officials said.
