3 killed, 5 hurt as train hits microbus in Moulvibazar

Seven people were killed and nine injured in accidents in three districts yesterday, according to reports from our correspondents.
In Moulvibazar, three people were killed and at least five others injured when a Sylhet-bound "Parabat Express" train rammed into a microbus in Bhatera area under Kulaura upazila.
Two of the deceased were identified as Farid Uddin (52) and Afif Uddin (8). The identity of another could not be known immediately, said police.
Kulaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Binoy Bhushan Roy said the injured were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Quoting locals and eyewitnesses, Kulaura Railway Station Master Muhibur Rahman said the train hit the microbus when it attempted to cross the rail line in a hurry.
He said locals illegally use the spot as a crossing, where there is no gate.
Meanwhile in Kurigram, two persons were killed and four others injured as a tractor hit an easy bike in Dharla Bridge area on Kurigram-Nageshwari-Bhurungamari road in Sadar upazila.
The deceased were identified as Rabeya Bewa (63) from Nawdabansh Bhangamor village and Habibur Rahman Habib (25) from Kachari Payradanga, Nageshwari upazila.
The injured -- including the easy bike driver -- were admitted to Kurigram Sadar Hospital from where the rest were referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, said police.
The tractor was seized but the driver fled the scene, said Kurigram Sadar Police Station OC Khan Md Shahriar.
In Tangail, two people were killed as a truck hit another from behind on Dhaka-Tangail highway at Dubail in Delduar upazila.
Momotaz Ali (35), a trucker from Dinajpur, and his helper -- whose identity could not be known immediately -- died instantly, said Gorai Highway Police Station OC Mohammad Azizul Haque. Police seized both the vehicles.
