2 workers die in underground tank of construction site

Two construction workers died while working inside a underground tank of an under-construction building in Dhaka's Uttar Khan area this morning.

The dead were identified as Md Samad, 55, and Modhu Mia, 42.

Alam Hossain, senior station officer of Uttara Fire Station, said the workers went to the tank to remove wooden structures this morning and fell unconscious.

As they were not responding, locals informed firefighters, who went there and recovered the bodies from the tank, he said.

"There is water in the unused tank and we suspected the workers died of inhaling poisonous gas that accumulated inside," he said.

Kazi Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Uttar Khan Police Station, confirmed that two workers died inside a septic tank.
