2 sisters burnt as fire breaks out in Ctg flat
Two sisters suffered burn injuries as a fire broke out in their apartment in Chattogram city this afternoon.
The sisters are identified as Samia Khaled (18) and Sabrina Khaled (26).
Locals rescued and rushed them to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Dr S Khaled, assistant professor of CMCH's Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit, told The Daily Star that their condition is critical as both of them suffered 50% burn injuries.
"What's concerning is that both the sisters' respiratory tracts were burned," the doctor added.
Shahidul Islam, senior station officer at Chandanpura Fire Station, said that a fire broke out at an apartment on the fourth floor of a five-story building in Rahattar Pularea around 12:15pm.
On information, fire fighters rushed to the scene and doused the blaze around 1pm.
"We are investigating the incident. A gas leak in the kitchen might be the reason behind the fire," he added.
According to neighbour Ohidul Alam, only the two sisters were in the flat during the fire as their parents were at their village home.
"When we heard screams, we broke open the door and rescued the sisters," he said.
