2 residents suffer critical burn injuries in explosion at Dhaka’s Tejturi Bazar
Two residents sustained critical burn injuries when a blast occurred at their second-floor apartment of a building in the capital's Tejturi Bazar last night.
The victims -- Md Yasin (35) and Titu (28) -- are now undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute with 50 percent and 65 percent burn injuries respectively, said Inspector Bacchu Miah of Dhaka Medical College Hospital's Police Outpost.
Rahamat Ullah Chowdhury, chief of bomb disposal unit of detective branch (DB) of police, said they primarily suspect that the explosion might have originated in the spark from the wire of an electric fan, which ignited accumulated methane gas in the sewerage line.
The six-storey building is situated next to Tejgaon Mohila College.
Rahamat said they are collecting evidence and that further details will emerge after investigation.
Abdul Latif, owner of the building said five people used to live in the apartment.
"During the incident, four people were in the flat," he added.
Police are talking to the two other residents of the apartment, said DB officer Rahamat.
