2, including child, dead after bus hits auto-rickshaw in Tangail
Two, including a five-year-old child, were killed and two were injured after a bus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Sadar upazila of Tangail this afternoon (July 12, 2022).
The deceased were identified as garment worker Moushumi Akhter (35), of Kathuajani village in Naldanga upazila of Natore, and Riya Moni (5), daughter of Rezaul Karim of Tenkimari village in Dewanganj upazila of Jamalpur.
Riya was Moushumi's niece, our Tangail correspondent reports quoting Assistant Sub-Inspector Md Nabin, in-charge of Tangail General Hospital police camp.
Witnesses said the accident occurred around 2pm when a bus of SI Paribahan hit the auto-rickshaw on Rabna Bypass of the upazila.
ASI Md Nabin further said the bodies are kept in the hospital morgue. The two injured are being treated at the same hospital.
Our correspondent, however, could not reach Elanga Highway Police In-Charge Autaur Rahman for comments on how the auto-rickshaw was running on the highway, despite restrictions.
According to police, at least 13 people were killed and 22 injured in eight separate road accidents on different roads, maximum on Dhaka-Tangail Highway, during the Eid celebration (from July 8 to July 12).
