At least one person was killed and four others injured when a trawler capsized after colliding with another in Pirojpur's Bhandaria this afternoon.

The victim, Abdur Rashid (65), was a resident of Boitakatha village of Nazirpur upazila, reports our Pirojpur correspondent quoting Md Mansur Rahman Biswas, officer-in-charge of Bhandaria Police Station.

Four more persons were injured in the accident. Of them, critically injured, Abdul Kuddus Hawlader (60), was taken to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital while the remaining three was currently undergoing treatment at Bhandaria Upazila Health Complex at the time of filing the report.

Quoting witnesses, the OC said, two trawlers—MV Tipu-12 and MV Farhan-10—were racing against each other while going towards Dhaka.

When the two trawlers reached the mouth of Pona and Kancha rivers, MV Tipu-12 hit the MV Farhan-10 from behind, which was carrying tree saplings, leading to its sinking -- leaving five people injured.

The injured were taken to Bhandaria Upazila Health Complex where Abdur Rashid succumbed to his injuries, the police official added.
