Bangladesh 14-notch down in peace index
Bangladesh has slipped 14 places in a year to rank 105th in this year's Global Peace Index.
Like the last year, Iceland has topped the list. Syria was 162nd and last.
Sri Lanka's position in the index is 110, while India stood 141st.
Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) prepared the index to measure the relative position of nations' peacefulness.
According to IEP, the world has become a less peaceful place in 2013.
In its annual report, the Global Peace Index, the organisation ranks 162 countries by measuring security in society, the extent of conflict and the degree of militarisation.
This year's report released on Tuesday reinforced a longer term pattern the IEP has noted: since 2008 levels of peace have fallen by 5 percent.
Overall, it found that 110 states have become less peaceful and that 48 have become more so.
Countries were given scores on 22 indicators that measure internal (levels of perceived criminality, number of police per 100,000 people and level of organised crime) as well as external peace indicators.
