Bangabandhu's statue inaugurated at BFDC
A statue of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was unveiled at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) in the capital on the country's 43rd Victory Day yesterday.
BFDC Managing Director Pijush Bandyopadhyay inaugurated the statue, saying only the self-initiative and farsightedness of Bangabandhu yielded today's BFDC.
In the five decades, the thousands of films made in the BFDC have played a significant role for creating mass awareness during different movements including the country's Liberation War, he said.
Pijush said the significance of this year's victory was totally different, as Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was freeing the country from stigma by ensuring the execution of first war criminal Abdul Quader Mollah for crimes against humanity in 1971.
"We have been freed from stigma. The new generation will go forward defeating all conspiracies and obstacles for rebuilding a new Bangladesh in the spirit of the great Liberation War." In this respect, he said, the installation of Bangabandhu's statue could play an important role.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote leaders Syed Hasan Imam and Mobarak Ali Sikdar, Bangladesh Film Directors Association President Shahidul Islam Khokan, and General Secretary MushfiqurRahman Gulzar, Director of BFDC Shafiqul Islam, Lakkan Debnath and actor Miju Ahmed spoke on the occasion among others.
