Head-on Collision: 2 drivers die as vehicles catch fire
Two drivers died as their vehicles caught fire following a head-on collision in Bottoli area of Dinajpur's Kaharol upazila last night.
The victims' identities could not be known immediately.
Abdul Malek, in-charge of Dashmile Highway Police Station, said around 10:30pm, a night coach heading for Dhaka from Panchagarh collided head-on with a Thakurgaon-bound goods-laden truck on Panchagarh-Rangpur highway.
After the collision, CNG cylinder of the truck exploded and both the vehicles caught fire, said firefighters.
Some 15 passengers of the bus were also injured in the accident. They were admitted to different hospitals.
Passengers of the bus and helper of the truck's driver managed to get down the vehicles, but the two drivers were trapped inside their vehicles.
Hearing the incident, firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire after nearly two hours of efforts.
Dhaka's road communications with Thakurgaon and Panchagarh remained suspended for around three hours following the accident.
