Assault on woman at DU: Police yet to arrest main accused
Police are yet to arrest the principal accused, Rassel, in connection with the assault on a young lady on the Dhaka University campus on the New Year's night.
A group of youths stripped the girl on December 31 night in front of TSC where she had gone with her kiths to join the New Year's celebrations.
The accused, Rassel, reportedly a leader of the ruling party backed Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) unit of Shahidullah Hall of Dhaka University is still at large even after ten days of the incident.
Special squads of detective police went to Sherpur, the village home of the accused in vein. Police also went to Brahmanbaria but failed to arrest the accused.
The Dhaka University authorities, meantime, have temporarily expelled Rassel, a student of second year Honours class of Botany Department from the university. The BCL, however, has disowned him.
Two youths-Mamun and Muktar-arrested by the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) earlier-- in connection with the incident were taken on five days remand on January 7.
The Facts finding committee of DU headed by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Sahadat Ali will sit in a meeting on January 16 in this connection.
