Bangladesh-India JCC talks postponed
The Joint Consultative Commission meeting, a foreign ministerial-level annual conference between India and Bangladesh which was scheduled for May 30 in Delhi, has been postponed.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, who is visiting Guwahati of Assam to attend an international river conference, told reporters after a meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar there.
During his interaction with Bangladeshi journalists in Guwahati, "I had a long discussion with the Indian foreign minister here (Guwahati) and discussed many issues. So, we feel that we can defer Monday's meeting," he said.
Abdul Momen, however, did not mention new dates of the JCC meeting in New Delhi, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
Sources said the postponement was done at the request of India as Jaishankar would be busy with a "very important" engagement in connection with a foreign dignitary's visit to New Delhi on June 30.
An official of Bangladesh foreign ministry told The Daily Star that the meeting may be held in the third or last week of June.
Apart from discussing wide ranging bilateral issues, the visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina later this year was also scheduled to be discussed.
