Trinamool MP suspended from Rajya Sabha for incident over Pegasus spyware proceedings
A Trinamool Congress member of the Rajya Sabha, Shantanu Sen, was today suspended for the remaining period of the month-long monsoon session.
The suspension came after a motion moved by the government was passed by the House, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Muraleedharan moved the motion for suspension of Shantanu who had snatched papers from Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and tore them in the House on Thursday, giving an ugly turn to the proceedings over the Pegasus spyware issue.
The motion was passed by voice vote and Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu asked Shantanu to leave the House.
TMC members protested the suspension and objected to the manner in which the motion was brought without listing it in the day's business.
Another TMC lawmaker Sukhendu Sekhar Ray raised the issue of Shantanu being allegedly threatened by a minister but the Chairman said it happened after the House was adjourned.
The monsoon session of parliament began on July 19.
