Rabindranath's Santiniketan made Unesco World Heritage site

Santiniketan, where Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore set up Visva Bharati, has been added to the Unesco World Heritage List.
New inscription on the @UNESCO #WorldHeritage List: Santiniketan, #India. Congratulations!" the UNESCO wrote on X (formally Twitter) today, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
Established in 1901 by Rabindranath's father Debendranath Tagore, Santiniketan was a residential school and centre for an art based on ancient Indian traditions and a vision of the unity of humanity transcending religious and cultural boundaries.
Vishva Bharati was established in Santiniketan in 1921.
India has been trying for a long to get a Unesco tag for Santiniketan in the Birbhum district of West Bengal state.
A few months ago, the landmark site was recommended for inclusion in the Unesco World Heritage List by international advisory body International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), a France-based international non-governmental organization that comprises professionals, experts, representatives from local authorities, companies and heritage groups.
Besides, Santiniketan, West Bengal has another presence in Unesco's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage—Kolkata's Durga Puja.
