Punjab police releases details of Amritpal Singh’s dramatic escape
From changing clothes, routes, faking road crashes and shifting from a SUV to a motorcycle -- the escape of Sikh separatist supporter Amritpal Singh from the hawk eyes of India's Punjab police has all the ingredients of a Bollywood action film.
Some details of elusive Amritpal were made public by Punjab's inspector general of police, Sukhchain Singh Gill at a press briefing in Chandigarh today.
Punjab Police also released a few pictures of Amritpal, chief of "Waris Punjab De" (Inheritors of Punjab) showing him in different attires. The police official urged the people to help police in his arrest, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
The Punjab IGP said 30-year-old Amritpal is still on the run even though police have recovered the vehicle in which he fled.
Several videos have emerged about the way Amritpal managed to hoodwink the police.
"There are several pictures of Amritpal Singh in different attires. We are releasing all of these pictures. I request you display them so that people can help us to arrest him in this case," he said.
The IGP also said that after fleeing his village, Singh visited a gurudwara, Sikh shrine, at Nangal Ambian village in Jalandhar district and changed his clothes. Singh also switched from a car to a motorcycle to evade the police, Gill added.
"There he changed his clothes and wore a shirt and a pant and escaped along with three others on two bikes," the IGP said.
Two motor cycles were spotted in the video footages close to the car in which Amritpal was travelling. He was then seen exiting the car and getting on to one of the bikes as a pillion rider.
Amritpal Singh's car had also hit two-wheelers deliberately to mislead the police, Jalandhar DIG Swapan Sharma said yesterday. Amritpal also changed his escape route two to three times, according to Sharma.
