“If Agnipath protesters did yoga, they wouldn't resort to arson”
Yoga guru Swami Ramdev claimed on Wednesday that a few people are "creating disorder" in the nation to "throw" Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah from office. He called the demonstrations against the Agnipath plan "meaningless politics."
Ramdev stated that there should be yoga in politics but no politics in yoga while speaking at a yoga event at Delhi University.
"They (the demonstrators) wouldn't have turned to arson if they had practiced yoga. They ought to do yoga as well. It's pointless politics, these protests against Agnipath. In essence, a small group of individuals is pursuing a plan to sow chaos across the nation. To overthrow Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, they seek to sow chaos," he added.
The Agnipath scheme, which the Center unveiled on June 14, calls for short-term contractual recruitment of soldiers into the armed forces. The plan calls for the retirement of 75% of new hires after four years of employment, albeit they will receive a severance package of around Rs 11.70 lakh instead of a pension and health benefits.
Following the announcement, violent protests erupted in several parts of the country.
Ramdev attended as the chief guest on the second day of Yoga Week organized by the University of Delhi to commemorate the 8th International Day of Yoga.
