Ban on Hijab: Enhanced security for 3 Karnataka HC judges

India's state government today said it would provide enhanced category security to the three judges of Karnataka High Court who recently upheld a ban on wearing of hijab in class rooms.
The statement by Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai came in the wake of emergence of a video which shows a man issuing threats against the three judges, our New Delhi correspondent reports.
"This is one of the alarming signs in a democracy and we should ensure that these kinds of anti-national forces don't grow," Bommai said in Bengaluru.
The three judges are Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi and Justices Krishna Dixit and Khazi M Jaibunnisa.
The Karnataka High Court had contended that wearing of hijab was not an essential practice in Islam.
A petition has been filed in India's Supreme Court challenging the High Court verdict.
According to Indian police sources, two persons were arrested in neighbouring Tamil Nadu state after the video came to light.
Yesterday, advocate Umapathi S of Bengaluru complained to the Registrar General of the Karnataka High Court that he received a video message on WhatsApp in which a person, during a public meeting, refers to the alleged murder of a judge in Jharkhand.
