Madhupur commemorates World Indigenous Peoples' Day

A beautiful cultural programme was held at Corpus Christy High School at Jalchhara under Madhupur Upazila in Tangail on the occasion of World Indigenous Peoples' Day.

Nebul Daru, a cultural personality of Madhupur Garos, moderated everything.

Lawmaker of Tangail-1 (Madhupur-Dhanbari) Constituency Dr Abdur Razzaque attended the function and led a discussion as the chief guest. 

With Joyenshahi Adivasi Unnayon Parishad's President Eugene Nokrek as the chair, Ajoy-a-Mre, President of Tribal Welfare Association the Greater Mymensingh, was the main speaker at the discussion.

The Garo leaders, in their speeches, demanded to establish a cultural academy in Madhupur for developing language and culture practices of the local indigenous people.

Among others, Madhupur Upazila Parishad's Chairman Sarwar Alam Abu and Vice-Chairman Helal Uddin also played a huge part in the discussion.  Kamran Hossain, Additional Superindent of Police (Madhupur Circle) in Tangail, William Dajel, Chairman of Madhupur Upazila Unit of Tribal Welfare Association and Farhadul Alam Moni, Upazila Unit Awami League's General Secretary, also spoke at the discussion.

In the concluding session, three veteran Garos, former teachers Protibha Sangma and Maria Chiran of Madhupur, and writer and researcher Shubhash Jemchang of Mymensingh, were honoured at the function with crests. They have received awards for their lifelong contribution to the community.
