Sangkhubdha Nagorik Samaj, a citizens' platform, at a rally yesterday demanded that the government immediately arrest and hold trial of Tanvir Mohammad Toki's killers.
Speakers at the rally said though there was a pattern in the way 31 persons, whose bodies were found in Narayanganj in the last one and a half months, were murdered, police were claiming to be clueless.
The platform organised the rally at the base of Santrasbirodhi Raju Bhaskorjo in Dhaka University.
The body of Toki, 17, son of Rafiur Rabbi, convener of Narayanganj Gonojagoron Mancha, was found on the river Shitalakkhya on March 8, two days after he went missing.
Police till date arrested only one of the seven accused, including former Awami League lawmaker Shamim Osman and his brother Nasim Osman, named by Rafiur in a complaint with police, said the speakers.
“Everyone knows who Toki's murderers are but police are not taking any step,” said Toki Mancha Adviser Rothin Chakrabarti.
The accused are moving freely with Shamim and Nasim and are now trying to “capture” the Narayanganj mancha, said Narayanganj Press Club President Halim Azad.
Former Communist Party of Bangladesh chief Manzurul Ahsan Khan, Khushi Kabir of Nijera Kori, Garments Sramik Oikya Forum leader Moshrefa Mishu, singer Maksudul Haque, Arup Rahi, and Jahangirnagar University teacher Nasrin Khondokar also addressed the rally.
