Ctg Madrasa Explosion

Another injured dies

Another of the seven injured of the October 7 explosion in a Chittagong madrasa died yesterday afternoon at Dhaka Medical College Hospital's (DMCH) burn unit, raising the death toll to three.
Nurun Nabi, 26, shifted to DMCH on October 8 with 90 percent burns, hails from Ikhlaspur in Noakhali's Begumganj, resided in Chittagong city's Port Colony and was employed as a diploma engineer in a private company.
It remains to be known what Nabi was doing at Jamiatul Ulum Al Islamia Madrasa in Lalkhan Bazar.
The madrasa is run by Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury, a Hefajat-e Islam leader and a suspected activist of the banned militant outfit Harkatul Jihad al Islami (Huji).
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Shafiqur Rahman told journalists on October 8 that Nabi might have been taken to the madrasa to make bombs.
He was shown arrested in two of three cases filed over the explosion.
Nabi was an Islami Chhatra Shibir activist as per CMP's Special Branch, Bandar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahedul Islam told The Daily Star.
He is also accused in two cases, one filed in January 30 for trying to set a covered van on fire in Barrister College area and another over the death of two people during a February gunfight in Dewan Hara following the verdict against Delawar Hossain Sayedee, he said.
Nabi was arrested on March 30 but took bail from the High Court and the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in two cases and got out from jail on May 22, said Chittagong Central Jail Deputy Jailor Md Sohel.
