Another held over Ctg madrasa blast
This Monday photo shows scattered furniture, newspapers and other materials in a room, which were burnt following a bomb blast at a Hefajat leader’s madrasa in Chittagong.
Three days into the devastating explosion at a madrasa in Chittagong, police arrested another person Thursday for his suspected link with the blast.
The arrestee is Shakhawat alias Salauddin alias Sharafatul. Police found several injury marks on his body, reported our correspondent quoting ASM Nizamuddin, assistant superintendent of police in Hathazari circle of Chittagong.
Police suspected that Salauddin got the injuries during Monday's blast.
After his detention, Salauddin claimed that he is a student of a madrasa located in Hathazari.
With the detention, eight people have so far been arrested in connection with the blast at Jamiatul Ulum Al Islamia Madrasa in Lalkhan Bazar of Chittagong, that left two students dead and several injured.
Earlier on Wednesday, Harun Izhar, son of Hefajat-e Islam Nayeb-e-Ameer Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury, was arrested along with his bodyguard.
Harun is the publicity secretary of Hefajat while his father is the founder and principal of the madrasa where the explosion took place.
Acting on a tip-off, Hathazari police made the arrest from a Dhaka-bound bus at City gate area of the port city around 7:00am, the police official added.
Later, he was handed over to Khulshi police, the assistant superintendent said.
Police recovered four hand-made grenades on Monday from the dormitory of the madrasa.
Eighteen bottles of picric acid, a bomb-making material, have also been found in Izharul’s office in the madrasa.
Following the blast, three cases--one under explosive substances act, another for stashing acid and one more for killing--were filed.
In the three cases, Mufti Izharul and his son were named as prime accuse.
