AL-led alliance to welcome if peaceful
Ruling Awami League-led 14-party combine yesterday said it would welcome Hefajat-e-Islam's long march towards Dhaka on April 6 if the demonstration is carried out “democratically and peacefully”.
A day after Hefajat's programme, the 14-party will stage countrywide rallies protesting what it says is anarchy created by BNP-Jamaat.
“The government will not obstruct the march if it is peaceful,” AL Presidium Member Mohammad Nasim told reporters at a meeting of the grand alliance at party chief Sheikh Hasina's political office in Dhanmondi.
Mainuddin Khan Badal, executive president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, said if Hefajat-e-Islam turns “Hefajat-e-Jamaat” then there would be some problems.
The meeting also termed the incident of bashing the head of a police officer in Rajshahi as a failure of the police administration and demanded that the government take action against those who were negligent in performing their duty.
