90 houses gutted in fire in Dinajpur, Panchagarh
At least 90 houses were gutted in fire incidents in Dinapur and Panchagarh districts on Sunday and the day before.
A devastating fire gutted at least 60 houses at Chhit Alakdihi Sarkerpara village in Khansama upazila of Dinajpur on Sunday.
According to police and locals, the fire originated from the kitchen of Md. Mosnur Ali of the village at around 8.30pm.
In no time, it rendered more than 100 members of 20 families homeless. They were living under the open sky till filing of this report yesterday.
On Tuesday last, another fire rendered at least 200 people homeless. They are also awaiting for government help and living under the open sky.
The fire incident took place at noon at Gurihat village under the same upazila in Dinajpur.
During a visit to the spot this correspondent found the affected people, mostly day labourers, were still crying for succour. The local UP chairman made a special arrangement since the incident to feed around 200 victims.
In Panchagarh, at least 30 thatched houses were gutted in a devastating fire at Roghunathpur village under Atwary upazila on Saturday afternoon, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.
Fire-fighters and local sources said, the fire originated from an electric short-circuit at one Mofizuddin's house of the village at about 3:00pm that soon engulfed the adjacent houses and gutted 30 houses.
On information, two units of fire-fighters from Panchagarh and Boda Fire Stations rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control in one and a half hour's frantic efforts with the help of local people.
The victims claimed that the fire damaged properties worth Tk. 20 lakh while the fire-fighters estimated the loss at Tk.7.60 lakh.
