9 sentenced to 10yrs jail for killing Khulna BNP leader

A special tribunal yesterday sentenced nine people to 10 years imprisonment for killing Ikhtiarudin Bablu, local BNP leader, in August 1997.

The convicts are Shahadat Hossain, Delwar, Rahim, Hero, Rafiqul, Lipu, Mushfiqur Rahman Hirok, Farid and Rezaul.

According to the prosecution, a gang of criminals fired gunshots and threw crackers on Bablu at Banargati bazar on August 22, 1997. He died on the spot.

Bablu, a former Deputy Mayor of Khulna City was going to Satkhira in a car.

After investigation, police submitted a charge sheet against 13 people including Jubo League leader Hirok who is also wanted in journalist Shamsur Rahman murder case.

After hearing of the case Additional District and Sessions Judge Khandokar Hasibuddin pronounced the verdict.
