7 policemen hurt in gunfight with 'robbers'

At least seven policemen, including an officer in-charge (OC), were injured in a gunfight with 'robbers' at Musapur in Companyganj upazila early yesterday.
Companyganj police station OC Sajedur Rahman said, a police team, aided by Chittagong police, arrested two members of inter-district robbers' gang -- Sheikh Kamal alias LG Kamal and Jahangir Alam alias Kachiwala Dakat -- from Akbar Shah area in Chittagong city on Saturday afternoon.
Later, the police team along with the two arrestees raided the house of Mizan, another member of the robbers' gang, in Musapur union at night, and seized a pipe gun and two bullets from the house.
During the drive, the other members of the gang opened fire on the police team in a bid to snatch the two arrested robbers in Temuhani area on their way back to police station shortly after midnight.
The law enforces returned the fire in self defence, triggering a gunfight, that left seven policemen including OC Sajedur and two robbers -- Kamal and Jahangir -- injured.
