Police arrested six activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, with huge explosives, bomb making materials and Jihadi books during a raid in Kalyanpur area of the capital today.

On information, a team of police conducted a raid at two rooftop rooms of a five-story building around 7:00am, an hour after the Jamaat-enforced daylong hartal (shutdown) began across the country.

The team arrested two Jamaat-Shibir men along with six kilograms of gun powder, huge amount of bomb making materials and a sack of iron pellets, said Salauddin Khan, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station.

As per the information given by the arrestees, police conducted another drive at the nearby areas and rounded up four of their associates, the police official said.

Jamaat-Shibir men supplied bombs to different places in the capital from the house during blockades and hartals, the OC further said.

No violence was reported in the capital during the hartal hour today.

Vehicular movements were slightly thin in the city thoroughfares than the normal days. A number of private cars were seen plying the city streets along with the vehicles.
