IO claims to be unaware about absence of magistrate's sign
The fifth investigation officer (IO) of the Chittagong arms haul cases yesterday said he was not aware that pages 4 to 19 of a confessional statement, taken from an accused former NSI director, were not signed by a magistrate.
The statement was taken from former National Security Intelligence (NSI) director Wing Commander Shahab Uddin in a court on June 15, 2009, said Advocate Hamdur Rahman, defence lawyer of Shahab Uddin.
The IO, Moniruzzaman Chowdhury, an additional superintendent of police of Criminal Investigation Department, was being cross examined by Hamdur before Chittagong Metropolitan Special Tribunal-1.Moniruzzaman also denied submitting the charge sheet under the influence of higher authorities. Kamrul Islam Sajjad, defence lawyer of former DGFI director Brig Gen (retd) Rezzakul Haider Chowdhury, also cross examined the IO.
