56 RMG workers fall sick in Gazipur

Fifty six workers of a garment factory in Signboard area of Gazipur were hospitalised with stomach disorder on Sunday.
Doctors suspected that the workers of Alvin Fashion Sweaters in East-WestIndustrial Park might have fallen sick after drinking contaminated water from the reserve tank of the factory, said Syed Habibullah, the district civil surgeon.
Contacted, Aminul Islam Amin, assistant manager of the factory, said 56 workers have been admitted to GazipurSadarHospital and other local hospitals.
Most of them have vomiting tendency while some of them complained of stomach-ache and dizziness, said Abdullah Al Mamun, a doctor at the emergency department of the Sadar hospital.
They fell sick about half an hour after drinking the water of the factory, reported our Gazipur correspondent quoting some of the sick workers.
A probe team has already been sent to the factory to investigate the cause, said the district civil surgeon.
This is the second such incident in this month.
On June 5, over 800 workers of Starlight Sweaters of Labib Group in Gazipur fell sick after drinking contaminated water of the factory.
