55 Jamaat-Shibir men detained in Comilla

Police picked up 55 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, at Comilla city on Friday night

Acting on a tip-off, a team of law enforcers detained them by raiding a community centre in Barapara area while holding a "secret meeting" around 8:30pm, said Mahiuddin Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.

The official said most of the detainees are students and intern doctors of Comilla Medical College and Hospital, reports our correspondent in Comilla.

The detainees, whose identity could not be known immediately, were planning to carry out sabotage, the OC added.
