5 pc duty on import of rice
BENAPOLE, Jan 13: The government has imposed a five per cent import duty on rice, reports UNB.
The duty was imposed by the National Board of Revenue on Tuesday, effective from today in all Customs Houses.
The government issued the circular to ensure fair prices for the farmers after two consecutive bumper crops," one official said.
The government withdrew all import duties during the floods to encourage massive grain imports to avert any food shortage in the country.
Then, only 3 per cent income tax was applicable on all rice imports.
