5 murdered in Khulna in four days

KHULNA, Jan 23: Five people including two women were murdered in five thanas of the district between January 19 and 22.

A young man was murdered at village Bunarabad under Batiaghata thana on January 19. A group of armed miscreants hacked him to death over a land dispute. The youngman was identified as Ruhul Amin, 26, son of Abdur Rashid.

On the same day another man identified as Makbul Hossain, 32, was slaughtered at his village home at Hadda under Koira thana. Police said the victim was on FIR-named accused in a murder case.

On the night of January 21, Salma Khatoon, 23, of Durjani Mahal village under Rupsha Thana was beaten to death allegedly by her husband Shagar and mother-in-law Rasheda Begum for dowry. They were arrested soon after the murder.

On the same night, another woman Zobeda Khatoon, 19, was beaten to death allegedly by husband Selim Fakir of Bhandarpara in Dumuria. She was murdered for dowry, police said.

A farmer named Afsar Shaikh, 55, of Atlia village under Tero Kheda PS was stabbed to death in a clash with his rivals yesterday noon, police said.

Five separate murder cases were lodged.
