5 die after inhaling toxic gas inside septic tanksc
Five people died after inhaling 'toxic' gas inside septic tanks in Chapainawabganj and Rangpur districts yesterday and the day before.
Three workers, including two siblings, died after inhaling poisonous gas inside a septic tank at Umarpur village in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj on Monday, reports our correspondent.
The deceased were identified as Sufal, his brother Madon of Chamarhaat village in Shibganj upazila and their relative Santosh of Bargachhi village in Bholahat upazila.
Mizanur Rahman, officer in-charge of Shibganj police station, said Sufal and Madan entered the septic tank of one Altaf Master of the area to clean it at 7:30pm.
Getting no response a few minutes after their entry, Santosh climbed down the tank and met the same fate.
Later, locals recovered the bodies of the trio and informed police, said the OC.
In Rangpur, one Dudu Mia, 25, son of Abul Kashem of Beramukim village in Mithapukur upazila and his father-in-law Goldar Hossain, 45, died after they inhaled toxic gas inside a septic tank in the area yesterday, reports our correspondent.
Moazzem Hossain, OC of Mithapukur police station, said Golder accidentally fell into the septic tank when the slab of the toilet broke up at their house at 11:30am.
Hearing the hue and cry, Dudu entered the tank to rescue him but could not return back.
Later, the bodies were recovered from the tank, said the OC.
