46 shops gutted in capital
At least 46 shops were gutted in a fire at a tin-shed market in the capital's Madhya Badda area yesterday.
Nilufar Yasmin, a mobilising officer at the head office of the Fire Service and Civil Defence in Dhaka, said valuables worth around Tk 1.5 crore were damaged in the fire that broke out at Hazi Super Market around 5:15am.
The fire originated from an electric short circuit, she said.
Twelve firefighting units from different stations doused the blaze after around two hours of efforts. The shops contained fabrics, cosmetics, readymade garments, shoes and other products.
